“People see the logo and think: a bill to pay.” But there is much more to it. S.E.S.A. collects the waste of dozens of municipalities south of Padua and turns it into energy, biomethane, carbon dioxide and fertiliser. That is where we started: not with a campaign, but with the places where S.E.S.A. already was.
The starting point
Where was S.E.S.A. starting from?
A solid, technical company, with major plants and three very different audiences: local citizens, large municipal utilities, businesses. And communication built from successive patch-ups, with no overall design.

Through waste, S.E.S.A. provides a service for a cleaner environment. Citizens, though, see it only as a waste collector. From our presentation to S.E.S.A., 2024
How do you speak to fifty-three municipalities with one message?
The collection calendar is the only thing we make that ends up on a kitchen wall for twelve months. It is not a leaflet: it is a tool.
Fifty-three waste calendars for 2025, one per municipality: same structure, same illustrated cover, different schedules and rules in each town. Inside, the letter to the community, the correct behaviour bin by bin and the useful numbers. Alongside, service leaflets, social posts for bag distribution and press pages.

How do you explain the circular economy to a five-year-old and to an eighteen-year-old?
Four ages, four booklets. The same content told in four different ways.
S.E.S.A. Academy is the environmental education project the company runs in local schools. In September 2024 we designed its logo, across three releases.
Then the school programme for the 2025/2026 academic year: four editions, one per level, with a sheet for every workshop, the timings and how to sign up. And the 2025 diary, telling the journey of a bottle as a comic.

How do you make a sustainability report readable?
A sustainability report is a required document. Our job is to make it something somebody actually opens.
Two editions laid out: tables, charts, plants, quantities. Then the posters and the invitations to the meetings where the report is presented to administrators and staff. Because a report that stays inside a PDF has not done its job.

How do you tell the story of a company that makes energy from waste, in thirty seconds?
Nobody reads at a trade fair. One line is enough: where waste becomes new products and new energy.
The 2025 company profile: forty pages in Italian and English, ten releases before print. It covers the whole chain — separate collection, optical-pneumatic sorting, anaerobic digestion, Terra Euganea compost, district heating, biomethane, food-grade CO₂, solar power, the laboratory, the greenhouses.
Then the six-by-three-metre stand backdrop for the Naples trade fair.

How do you celebrate an anniversary without the rhetoric?
Thirty years are not celebrated with a big number. They are celebrated by inviting the people who made them.
A celebratory logo in which the zero is the company’s own symbol. A poster with a line-drawn hot-air balloon. An invitation, a certificate, a map of the site and cards with seeds to plant: what people are left holding after the party.
